I am walking through Maximo Gomez Park ( or "Domin㦮bsp; Park") and think by myself, what a wonderful Havana! But I am not in big Havana, the dominoes on tree-shaded tables I see are played by Cubans of Little Havana. My broken heart hurts again, 40 years I haven't seen my Habana vieja ...
The 30-block strip in the center of Miami called "Little Havana" (around calle ocho/S.W.8th Street) is an emotional homestead for most of us Cubans living in the United States. And for most U.S.Americans this is the only Havana they have seen ever, isn't it? Los Ritmos de Salsa e Merengue seem to emanate from every window and door, and on my tongue I can feel the  taste of homemade salsa picante dashed on an piece of an Avocado. All that is made for a little comfort to our Cuban hearts and for you, too....
We are proud on our little Havana, and if you gong to visit it, you will see, that we have something for you, not only our famous cigars handmade por(by) and para (for) aficionados.
Try dining at a Cuban restaurant, maybe at "La Esquina de Tejas", a nice corner bodeguita (the famous actor and former U.S.president Ronald Reagan ate once here), or eat at my favour "Exquisito Restaurant" and try pollo (fried chicken) con "christianos e moros", that means rice and black beans, or roast pork with sweet fried plantains. Don't miss to have a look at Little Havana at night, you may start your trip through "our havana" visiting "Cafe Nostalgia" not only to drink a small cup of coffee ("cafe cubano"!) but lesson to live music too.It's at 2212 calle ocho (S.W.8th street). Explore the streets around calle ocho and dive in to our life and our Ritmo Cubano Especial! At night you should have a little precaution and beware of some bad guys as seen in any town and so in Miami.
We have many Cuban things here, but I miss my Malecon, El Morro and much more...!Hasta la vista en Little Havana!
